A podotherapist is an allied health professional specialised in examining and treating complaints caused by an abnormal foot position or an abnormal gait pattern. These may be complaints in the foot itself, but also in the ankle, knee, hip or back.
The podotherapists at Podotherapie Rotterdam hold a bachelor's degree in podotherapy and a post-bachelor qualification in sports and paediatric podotherapy.
We have our own AGB code, are registered under the Dutch Individual Healthcare Professions Act (Wet BIG) and are listed in the Kwaliteitsregister Paramedici. We also meet all requirements set by the professional association (NVvP). This guarantees quality at all times and means Podotherapie Rotterdam is recognised by all health insurers.
We do not treat the foot in isolation, but look at the entire movement chain: foot, ankle, knee, hip and back.
Where necessary, we coordinate with other (allied) medical disciplines to achieve the best result.

Do you have complaints in your feet, legs or back that may be related to your gait pattern or foot position? Then podotherapy can help. Do not wait too long if complaints keep coming back or do not resolve on their own.
A foot consists of 26 bones, 33 joints, 19 muscles, 107 ligaments and many nerves. All of this is surrounded and separated by a complex system of connective tissue structures (fascia).
With every step, a force of two to three times your body weight is exerted on the foot and ankle, and movements in the foot influence the function of the ankle, knee, hip and back. We take around 8,000 steps a day on average, so it is quite logical that everyone experiences complaints at some point as a result of the feet not functioning properly.
If complaints persist or are recurrent in nature, it is important to have them examined.
